Klose nets three as Bayern crushes Energie

Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Miroslav Klose scored three of Bayern Munich's five second-half goals in a 5-0 thrashing of Energie at Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Klose started the scoring barrage in the 59th minute before Martin Demichelis and Luca Toni scored goals six minutes apart to give the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead. Klose added two more before the final whistle to give him a league- leading eight goals on the season.

The Bayern attack, which entered the match scoring 16 goals in just six games, failed to find the net in the opening half, but certainly had plenty of opportunities.

Toni had a pair of headers from inside the area sail over the net, and Franck Ribery created a few chances of his own with dangerous crosses from the wing.

After being held in check over the first 45 minutes, Bayern exploded in the second half and showed why the team is far and away the best in the Bundesliga.

Bayern thought it had taken the lead shortly after the break when Ribery curled a perfect free kick into the upper corner of the net. However, the referee ruled that a Bayern player was offsides and took the goal away.

It was just a preview of things to come as Bayern put together a four-goal blitz in 17 minutes to put the result well out of reach.

The first goal was given away by Energie keeper Tomislav Piplica, who failed to cleanly handle a Ribery cross. The ball was spilled inside the six-yard box and Klose was left with an easy rebound to knock home.

Four minutes later the lead was doubled when Ze Roberto crossed from the left for Daniel van Buyten at the back post. Van Buyten got a touch on the ball, knocking it into the path of Demichelis for an easy finish.

Bayern's third goal was picture perfect, with Ribery starting the play with a great ball from midfield in behind the defense. Klose ran onto the ball and slid a pass first-time to Toni, who redirected it past the keeper for a 3-0 Bayern lead.

Things only got worse for the visitors in the 76th minute when substitute Toni Kroos lofted a pass into the box for Klose, who brought the ball down off his chest and smacked a shot inside the left post.

Klose then completed his hat trick with a header in the 89th minute to keep Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table.

In other Bundesliga action on Wednesday, Hannover doubled up on Arminia Bielefeld 2-0, Maik Franz scored the lone goal in Karlsruhe's 1-0 win over Eintracht, Bayer Leverkusen downed Nurnberg 2-1 on a goal from Tranquillo Barnetta in the 76th minute, and Stuttgart slipped past Bochum with a 50th minute goal from Roberto Hilbert.
