St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols may miss the rest of the season with a strained left calf.
"If I feel like I can play, I'm going to play," Pujols told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. "But the way I feel right now, I would say no. But we'll see the next couple of days."
The injury forced Pujols from the lineup shortly before the team's game on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, although he did hobble to first base after a late-inning pinch-hit appearance. Pujols then missed Wednesday's contest.
The 27-year-old Pujols is the only player in baseball history to record a .300 batting average, 30 home runs, 100 runs batted in and 100 runs scored in six consecutive seasons to begin a career. He is just five RBI and seven runs scored shy of extending that streak.
Pujols is batting .321 with 31 homers and 95 RBI this season
