Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - LA Angels of Anaheim centerfielder Gary Matthews Jr. left the team's game in the first inning against Texas with a left leg injury.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, Nelson Cruz hit a fly ball to deep center that Matthews jumped back for near the wall and came down awkwardly on his leg as he made the catch.
Matthews, who was replaced in the lineup by Nathan Haynes, came into the game hitting .252 with 18 home runs and 72 runs batted in this season.
